Austria is a landlocked country that connects Eastern and Western Europe. This delightful country is rich in history and culture and is crammed full of Baroque architecture. The capital Vienna offers a look into Austria’s grand past although the rest of the country has an equal dose of history. Several museums such as the Stephansdom and the extremely large Kunsthistorisches Museum will show you the splendour of Austria’s past.

Vienna is full of palatial palaces. Just outside is the Schloss Schönbrunn. Here you will find perfectly sculptured gardens along with the world’s oldest zoo. The central city area is easy to walk around and you can peacefully take in the plethora of sights. The Hofburg Imperial Palace and the Swiss courtyard (Schweizerhof) will leave you stunned.

Salzburg is another great wonder of Austria. The location is quite breathtaking; the town is located by the Salzach River and surrounded by hills. Salzburg is rich with churches, fountains and medieval buildings. It is easily explored on foot. Hohensalzburg Castle provides excellent views of the city during the day while at night you can take advantage of concerts at the Mozart Museum.

Those who are interested in visiting historically rich but less touristy locations may wish to head to Linz or Graz. These are both busy cities with splendid sights that will not leave you disappointed. The Arlberg region boasts stunning scenery and great ski resorts like St Anton. Those who wish to visit something a little different may want to see the Eisriesenwelt Caves and get a glimpse of large ice caverns.

Austria offers a variety of accommodation options. The capital has a range of top hotels and budget guest houses. Outside of the capital you will find well priced accommodation in the form of small or large guest houses. Some of the bigger towns have top-of-the-range-hotels.

You can get to Austria via the main airport, Vienna International Airport. Linz, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt also have airports if you wish to visit other areas. Austria has a good fast rail service. You can access the country by rail from the major cities in surrounding countries. There are also bus services from major European cities that will allow you to take in the views along the way.
